ALL ACCESS FOOTBALL DAILY DOSE 3/17

MARIO MANNINGHAM PRO DAY UPDATE
Michigan WR Mario Manningham improved his forty time at his Pro Day to 4.44 and 4.38. He also jumped 35" vertically and had a 4.38 short shuttle time. He still has an outside chance to be a late first-round pick.

Mandel's Take: He's got the talent to be a #1, but he disappeared in games way too often for my liking. Then again, you can say that about half the receivers in the NFL.

Mancini's Take: Not only does he have a shot of being a first round pick, but I think he should be. Super Mario is a playmaker--plain and simple. He can run after the catch and is effective in the red zone area. On top of that, he's a fierce competitor who expects a lot out of himself and his teammates although it may seem that he's picking on others at times. The bottom line is: He wants to be great, and I think he can be.

LENDALE CITED ON CHARGES
LenDale White has reportedly been arrested in Denver on Saturday, according to 9News.com. White was "cited" in Denver on Saturday on several charges — destruction of property, disobedience to a lawful order, and interference and resisting. The former USC tailback reportedly had arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in the off-season and hails from the Denver area.

Mandel's Take: I know the Rev is going to light the fire on this one, but allow me to say one thing--he wasn't arrested. Everyone settle down.

Mancini's Take:
Whether he was arrested or not isn't the point. He's no longer in college. One would think that he should start behaving like a grown man. Is that too much to ask for?

ANOTHER PLAYER IN THE NEWS
Jacoby Jones is free on bail after being arrested early Sunday morning on suspision of drunk driving, according to the Houston Chronicle. "It was basically a DWI investigation," said Houston Police Department Sgt. John Chomiak. "There was no accident involved."

Mandel's Take: Jones is lucky there wasn't an accident. Why oh why don't these players spend some of their money on a car service or hire a driver? You wanna get lit? Fine--but have enough sense not to get behind the wheel of a car, would ya?

Mancini's Take:
It's unfortunate, but sometimes something bad needs to happen for these players to get the point.

D-JAX GETS THE BOOT
As expected, the Niners released Darrell Jackson from their roster on Saturday.

Mandel's Take: He's still a good receiver and if he was on a team with, you know...a guy who could throw a decent pass, he'd put up some numbers. How about the Redskins? They're due to overpay someone.

Mancini's Take:
This is one of the few times I'll agree with Ross and say that Jackson is no different than the quality wide out who was Matt Hasselbeck's go-to guy only two years ago. Put DJax on an offense with a capable quarterback in a good scheme, and he'll once again prove to be a difference maker.

DOLPHINS ADD RETURN MAN
Tab Perry has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dolphins that will pay him a little less than a million dollars, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Mandel's Take: Rumor has it that Perry was injured as he stood up after signing the contract. If his hip doesn't keep him sidelined, he'll be a decent signing. However, I wonder what a team like the Dolphins--who needs everything--is doing signing a health-risk guy.

Mancini's Take: Perry had a chance to establish himself last year during Chris Henry's eight-game suspension, but never delivered. Whether it was a dropped pass or poorly-run route, Perry failed to shine alongside TJ and Ocho Cinco. What makes you think he's going to do any better on the Dolphins? I think we're looking at fourth receiver or special teams player.

JETS PIECE PUZZLE
The Jets have agreed to terms with former Packers TE Bubba Franks. The former Pro Bowler agreed to terms Sunday on a one-year, $1.65 million contract, according to an NFL source.

Mandel's Take: Seriously? Are the Jets getting kickbacks from a health insurer? How many injury-prone-over-the-hill guys are they bringing in? I'll bet they're upset Trent Green is no longer available.

Mancini's Take:
Despite the fact that Ross has never said a nice thing about the Jets, it pains me to admit that Franks is indeed an over-the-hill player with absolutely no upside. I don't care if he's cheap. What's the use in bringing in a lumbering tight end who drops passes and isn't very good in pass protection? Wouldn't they have been better off with Kyle Brady? At least he opens up some holes in the ground game. Personally, I would've waited to see what's available in the draft first.

JETS VETS CONTINUE TO GRIPE
WR Laveranues Coles, embroiled in a contract dispute, may not show at Hofstra. Last month, he said he wasn't going to participate unless the team tears up the final two years of his deal and gives him a long-term extension. DT Dewayne Robertson could skip the program because his status is uncertain. The Jets are trying to trade him to the Broncos, and a deal could be done any day. QB Chad Pennington will participate in the program, he said through a team spokesman. There had been rumors that Pennington, unhappy about last season's demotion, was going to be a no-show.

Mandel's Take: It sounds like it's one big happy, injury-prone family over at Hofstra. Say something funny, Ralph...

Mancini's Take:
Yeah, laugh it up, Rosstradamus. The Jets don't need any drama, and neither do their fans. If they have the money to satisfy Coles, they shoud fork it over. If they don't, they need to trade him now and sign Darrell Jackson. Robertson, on the other hand, continues to hang like the proverbial albatross around Mike Tannenbaum's neck.
